Scott Barton

Mr. Barton has been with the team since 2004 and is one of its two lead mentors. He teaches Physics, Economics, American Government, and World History at San Marino High School. Besides playing the trombone in a local jazz band, Mr. Barton is also an authentic barbecue connoisseur.

Keiko Hiranaka

Ms. Hiranaka has been with the team since 2015 and is the second of its two lead mentors. When she was in high school, she was a member of FRC Team 1983, Skunkworks Robotics. She teaches Algebra 1, Geometry, and Calc AB at San Marino High School and is the head of its STEM program. In Ms. Hiranaka’s free time, she likes to spend time with her cats, Sherlock and Watson.

Jeng Yen

Dr. Yen founded the team in 2002. He currently works on robotics at JPL. Throughout each season, he comes by to give the team advice.

Bob French

Mr. French is our mentor from Boeing. He helps us machine parts that are impossible for us to manufacture with the tools we have at hand. We go to Boeing to work with him for their annual “bring your kid to work” day. Mr. French is a notorious prankster, and is always down to have s’mores with the team.

Gabe Weis

Gabe was the engineering president of the team in 2014 and comes back to help as a mentor. Gabe likes to travel, and has been to eight countries spanning three continents.

Amanda Chung

Amanda works at JPL as a software developer, working on rover planning tools. She went to Georgia Tech for her MSCS degree, and a fun fact about her is that she has a twin!

Kaylor Cruz

Kaylor currently attends Caltech and majors in mechanical engineering. On the team, he advises the strategy and design departments. He also volunteers as a referee during FRC competitions. In his free time, he plays board games and video games.

Kyle Weng

Kyle was programming captain of the team from 2016 to 2018. He is a rising junior primarily studying computer science at Caltech. Whenever he’s free, he enjoys playing video games (various genres), hunting for deals on parts (PC and keyboard), and going on walks (to play Pokemon Go).

Hester Liu

Hester is currently at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia studying Mechatronics Engineering. She still operates on the sleep schedule of a Californian.

Ethan Rooke

Ethan is currently working on his PhD in computational mathematics at the University of Iowa. He sleeps in a hammock.

Spencer Rooke

Spencer is in California, having recently graduated from UIUC, and is still doing research there remotely. He enjoys playing piano.

Zach Kaufman

Zach has just graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in computer science, and he is currently working at JPL. He enjoys programming.

Jessica Cameron

Jessica was our Engineering President in 2016. She is working on her bachelors of science in Aerospace Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona, where she is currently a 5th year student. She is specifically interested in systems engineering, model based systems engineering, V&V, as well as project life cycle planning. A fun fact about her is that she does not like tomatoes.

Will Li

Will is a former Mech Captain and Historian.  He studies Mechanical Engineering at UC Riverside.  In his spare time, he watches anime or builds race cars.

Wesley Su

Wesley, a former electrical captain, is a junior at Purdue University studying Civil Engineering. He plans to pursue a masters in Structural Engineering and become a licensed Professional Engineer and Structural Engineer. Wesley is in love with road cycling.

Nathan Lee

Nathan is currently studying at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, majoring in mechanical engineering. He has been with the team since Recycle Rush, the 2015 FRC game.

Shawn Thai

Shawn is studying electrical engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and he is pursuing a career in aerospace. He enjoys exploring new restaurants and food places wherever he is (college, home, work, etc.)

Olivia Cameron

Olivia was the engineering president of our team during her senior year (18-19). She is a sophomore studying aerospace engineering at San Diego State University.

Kimia Hassibi

Kimia was our Business President during our 2019 season. She is currently majoring in Computer Science at Caltech. Kimia enjoys spending time with her two Yorkies, Zeus and Zorro.

Will Cockrum

Will was our programming captain in his junior year (2018) and vice president of engineering in his senior year (2019). Will is currently majoring in Computer Science Engineering at Santa Clara University. Since going to Santa Clara, he has picked up skateboarding.

Edmond Wen

Edmond served as business correspondent in his junior year and went on to become our engineering president in his senior year during our 2020 season. He is currently studying computer science at the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering, and he’s interested in pursuing a public affairs minor. He’s particularly fascinated by the gap between law and technology that exists because of a lack of understanding on the part of lawmakers. A fun fact about him is that he has the same birthday as his mom!

Madeleine Haddad

Maddie was our Business President for our 2020 season, and she’s currently majoring in math at UCR. One fun fact about her is that she speaks 4 languages!

Tyler Hand

Tyler was our Engineering VP for the 2020 season. He is currently studying engineering at Purdue University. Tyler is interested in CAD and 3D printing.

Justin Jang

Jang served as CAD captain (2020) and Outreach Coordinator (2019) and served in the drive team. He is studying Environmental Studies/PoliSci at UCSC. In his free time, Justin plays video games, watches anime, and reads Wikipedia articles.

Arnee Wen

Arnee is at NYU studying art and programming in the IMA program (Interactive Media Arts).
