In the 2015-2016 season, the official game of FIRST Robotics competition was called Stronghold. The game consisted of two alliances taking down defenses and attempting to score goals in both the low and high goals. Each alliance had to take down the opponent’s defenses and score goals. However, it got much more complicated. The defenses in the center of the field were changed every match which made traversing the field all the more difficult. Teams had to create bots that could complete a plethora of objectives. For our team, we chose to design our bot so that we could traverse the majority of the field, defend, and score low + high goals.

Working through the full duration of the allotted six weeks, our robot Cer[Ti]fied was built and ready to rumble! Certified and trained to win! The bot was fitted with an arm in the front that allowed us to pick up balls, shoot balls, and open up specific defenses. Decked out in bright LED’s and a six wheel tank drive, it would have been hard to miss us on the field.

This year we travelled to the Los Angeles Regional and the Ventura Regional where we ended as a Regional Finalist. Confident in our ability to cooperate with other teams, we came into the competition as a strong choice for the alliance selections. Beating multiple high scoring teams in the elimination rounds fueled the fire and drive that we needed to overcome our fears. Ending up as possibly the loudest team in the whole stadium, our drive performed well and we couldn’t be more proud of them!
